Marco Jansen started playing cricket for South African domestic teams and worked his way up to international cricket quite quickly.

Domestic Career 

Marco made his List A debut back in April 2018 for North West. He made his First-class debut later that year in the CSA 3-Day Provincial Cup.

In total, he took 27 wickets in six matches for North West during the 2018–19 domestic season which was the best in the team. From there he went on to represent Knights, Warriors, Free State, and Titans in domestic South African cricket.

International Career 

Jansen was named in South Africa’s Test squad in January 2021. He made his debut a few months later against India on 26 December 20 21. He followed this up with ODI and T20I debuts against India in January 2022 and June 2022 respectively. Fast-forward less than a year, and Marco Jansen was a three-format international player.

Franchise Career 

Marco was bought by the Mumbai Indians during the IPL 20 21 season. He later joined Sunrisers Hyderabad and played for them between 2022 and 2024. Memorable Performances 

In November 2024, Marco played what would become one of the greatest bowling performances by a South African in Test history. Bowling Sri Lanka at Kingsmead, Durban, he took 7/13 as South Africa bowled Sri Lanka out for just 42 runs – their lowest Test score ever. He became the first South African to take a 10-wicket match haul in Test cricket at that venue. In November 2025, Marco took part in South Africa’s first series win in India in 25 years by helping them beat India 2–0 in the Test series.

In the second Test, he scored 93 runs from 91 balls and took 6/48. Marco was named Player of the Match as South Africa recorded India’s heaviest Test defeat ever and a third successive Test series victory in India.

Jansen was also named South Africa’s 2023–25 ICC World Test Championship-winning squad. It was South Africa’s second ICC trophy after the 2013 Champions Trophy.

Jansen was also part of South Africa’s 2024 T20 World Cup run which saw the Proteas reach the finals and come runner-up.
